Our patients’ oral health is the number one priority for us. Oral cancer is relatively common and it is important that patients get checked regularly.
Oral cancer is usually separated into two different categories: the first being cancer of the tongue, gums or teeth (anywhere in the mouth). The second category is cancer of the throat and the very back section of the tongue.
When conducting an oral cancer screening, we look for symptoms such as:
- Sores that will not go away
- Numbness and/or pain in the mouth or throat
- An irritating lump or discolored patches
- Difficulty swallowing or closing the mouth comfortably
- Swelling of the tongue
At New Jersey Dental Arts, we scan and check for all of these warning signs. If anything concerning should arise, we will keep you educated and informed and refer you to a specialist that can further treat your needs.
